Test The Mind Body Connection
Are you contracted or expanded?
I can prove to you that there is a clear mind-body connection. If you are sitting, curl yourself into your body. Drop your head and just roll into yourself. Now declare in a loud voice, “I feel HAPPY!” Do you feel very happy?
Now open yourself up and raise your hands over your head, look up to the sky and in a loud voice say, “I feel SAD!” Do you feel sad?
If you are like just about everyone on earth, in both cases your body did not match your words. When you open up and raise your arms and look up, it opens your entire being up to happiness and feeling positive. And, similarly, when you curl up into a ball, you feel contracted and not the least bit happy.
Now reverse it and match up your body with your words. Try saying I am sad, while contracted and I am happy while open and expanded. Doesn’t that feel so much better?
Did you know that when you are feeling blue or sad, it is as simple as opening up your body and saying I feel happy? This exercise may not take all of your blues away, but it is a start.
We spend so much time in front of our computers at home and work in that contracted body stance. It is not healthy for our minds! That is also why scientists say exercise or just taking a 20 minute walk will perk you up and get your endorphins working to help you out!
Set an alarm for every hour or two while you are working to remind you to get up and OPEN UP! It can be as simple and reaching for the sky a few times while taking some deep breaths. Or stand with your hands at your side and bounce on your heels. Start with your arms at your side shaking and move them up until they are shaking up toward the sky. Do this a few times and you will feel a whole lot better.
Open up! Shake it off! Get some energy flowing through your body and it is better medicine than a double latte!
